Blu-ray Won, Who Cares?

As you know by now HD DVD lost the high definition format wars. I am extremely excited that for once I was not an early adopter. However, now that Blu-ray as emerged as the clear winner, I still don’t care. Why? Because optical media is so 80’s. You probably didn’t know the compact disc has been around since 1982.

It just doesn’t make sense to purchase or rent a movie on a plastic disc. The main reason it is bad for the environment and national security, since it takes oil to make the disc and then you gotta drive your car to purchase or rent said disc or have the USPS deliver the disc.

I am more excited about the advancements in the Apple TV and that Netflix might soon launch their watch instantly service on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. If and when Netflix launches that type of service I would expect you will see the price of movie rentals from Apple to drop.

I believe everything should just flow across the wire. However, there are still some areas that haven’t been figured out, such as doing a clean install of an operating system. I am sure that is in the works.
